Having spent some time in an Inbound Call Centre I thought this would be a breeze. Initially I had some difficulty ‘telemarketing’ but with the support and in-house training offered by the company I quickly settled into a fantastic working environment.

This is a family run company and is also family orientated. If you need time for family commitments the Team Leaders and Management will bend over backwards to accommodate you. I now work in the Administration area and have found a new career that I enjoy getting up in the mornings for. If you want to work in a friendly environment I personally believe you could not beat Thomas Direct.

Jane was a housewife, mother of three and married for 24 years when she joined Thomas Direct in 2007 at age 45

I was a hairdresser, worked in the industry until my first baby was born at the age of 26, then decided motherhood was where I was at, even though I still did hairdressing at home, then number two came along, at the age of 30 and before I knew it, I was 35 and number three came. Seeing to my family was my calling, until before I knew it I was becoming redundant as they grew up.

I was scared of the thought of getting back into the workforce, but knowing of someone who already worked at Thomas Direct and explaining to me how telemarketing works, I decided to give it a go. After my first interview in years and getting a resume together (something that I have never done, thank goodness having teenagers to help) I was given the chance and I am still here.

I enjoy the people I work with and those I speak to on the phone. I have made many friends, socialise with them. Not a day goes by without a good laugh. There is always a smile on my face and it shows in my work. I always was told I could talk underwater, now I get paid to do it.

Geoffrey joined Thomas Direct in early 2002

I am enjoying my work at Thomas Direct. It has been a challenge especially someone who has never done telemarketing before. I previously worked as a maintenance man and then a Supervisor for 35 years with the NSW Government.

My background was heavily involved in Information Technology, Graphic Design, Web Design and Administration. But I was looking for a change and decided to give Thomas Direct a go.

After working in the Telecommunications industry for over 27 years, I suddenly found myself looking for employment.

When I first came to Queensland I knew nobody and needed a job, I saw Thomas Direct’s advertisement and decided I would like to give it a go. Well after the first few calls I was off and the people not only on the other end of the phone but my work mates were great!

After several years of bliss I left to pursue a dream of becoming a carer, which much to my joy I did achieve, but as the years rolled on I needed a change and my immediate thoughts came back to Thomas Direct and all the great times I had, so I made that phone call and here I am, back where I started and loving every minute.

I love the variety you can have by doing other campaigns and the flexibility of the hours, but most of all it is the people contact not only over the phone, but with my work mates.

When I originally enquired about a position, I spoke to Denis over the phone and I built a great rapport with him, so I was disappointed when I came for my interview to find that he wasn’t available. However, I saw Brian and found him to be equally as friendly and welcoming. Ruth, of course, is fabulous and a great person to have as a team leader, always helpful and cheerful.

I had previously worked in a similar job, but what struck me immediately was how professional an organisation Thomas Direct is.

After being in the telecommunications industry for almost 30 years, moving to Queensland for a lifestyle change was what I had planned. Being told I was too old, too experienced (which I never understood), starting in telemarketing was something I honestly had never even considered.
